Personality:

(+) Loyal: Despite his many shortcomings, Finn has showed time and time again that he won't turn his back on the people he cares about. When we first meet him, he's being effectively blackmailed into subservience by a notorious bully--but when Mash treats him like a friend despite Finn being ordered to mess with him, Finn chooses to stand by Mash's side regardless of how the bullies turn on him. Later, when he's responsible for holding and protecting an item that will allow Mash to go farther in the selection for Divine Visionary, he refuses to let any harm come to it even when he can do nothing to defend himself. Often in the series, we see Finn standing up for the important people in his life even when that means putting himself in harm's way. It's hard for him, and he's clearly still very afraid, but the last thing he'd ever do is give up or turn his back on his loved ones. His friends and his family mean more to him than even his own well-being.

(-) Cowardly: Most of Finn's actions are inspired by cowardice. Because he often has a hard time defending himself, it's easy for him to cave into the whims of others who are stronger than him. When faced with powerful opponents or seemingly hopeless situations, he becomes little more than dead weight--his instinct is to run and hide, as well as to rely on more powerful allies. He tries to stay out of trouble, often lamenting that he just wants to live a quiet and peaceful life, but because of that very same nature gets dragged into many situations that he feels too afraid to get himself back out of. Although he'd never abandon someone else in need, he's very eager to take shortcuts to get himself out of desperate situations. Finn is reliable when push comes to shove, but often bemoans getting wrapped up in battles that he wants nothing more than to distance himself from. More than once, he can be seen fleeing from fights, or otherwise hiding behind his friends and weeping to be saved from frightening situations.

(-) Anxious: Finn is a worrywart that's always thinking about the worst possible outcome to any situation. When things don't go exactly as planned, he stresses out. Being surrounded by a group of friends that always seem to be getting into trouble and are just generally abnormal constantly keeps him on his toes. He almost never relaxes, always being preoccupied with how things can go wrong in any situation that he's put in. Because of his extremely fragile nerves, he can often be seen bemoaning the situations that he's put into, lowering and debasing himself to others to try and mitigate less-than-desirable outcomes. While he hopes for peaceful school days, his track record of things going wrong keeps him from ever truly being at peace himself. Finn is always expecting things to go wrong and doing everything in his power to keep his anxiety from going out of control...and often fails. It's not uncommon to see him spiraling, having panic attacks, and catastrophizing.

(-) Self-Loathing: Most, if not all of Finn's negative traits go back to his low opinion of himself. More than simply being a basic, if not lower-than-average-skill magic user, he's gone through life feeling as if he's a burden and unwanted. When he and his older brother were orphaned at a young age, they were bounced from one uncaring relative to another who all drove it into his head that they weren't wanted--that they were more trouble than they were worth. This was hard enough for a young child, but for many years he still had his older brother to rely on. When this changed and Rayne began to push him away (for his own reasons that Finn was unaware of), he put the cause on himself. In no uncertain terms, he was told by his brother that he was weak and a burden, and he continued forward internalizing these sentiments. He hates himself for his cowardice, for his pessimism, for his altogether unremarkable abilities. Finn believes if he were stronger and more capable, he could make his brother proud of him, but as it is, he falls so painfully short of that marker that he can't find any worth in himself. He's always putting himself down, vocalizing his shortcomings and apologizing for being more trouble than he's worth.

Powers and Abilities:

Magic in the MASHLE world - Each person in the MASHLE world can use magic, aside from Mash, himself. This magical gift is seen as something given to humans by the Gods and is represented by lines on their faces that they’re born with. There are three types of magic users, which is dependent on how many lines you have. People with one line are weaker than people with two lines, and people with two lines are weaker than people with three. Having more than one line is seen as rare, generally, with three lines being the rarest. Magic users can develop a new line as their magic grows, but generally their power level is capped at birth. Finn has one line and later in the series, past his current canon point, develops a second. His magic is currently at a basic level, not particularly noteworthy. Each magic user has what’s called their “Personal Magic” and is capable of casting “Basic Magic” spells.

Basic Magic - In MASHLE, magic users all can do some basic spells such as moving objects, revealing magically hidden doors, opening locks, inducing sleep, basic short distance teleportation, changing one object into another / transformation magic, and a spell to communicate with animals telepathically. Magic users tend to only be able to use these spells by chanting a word and casting the spell through their wand. At Easton Academy, students are taught everything from offensive magic to practical spells, potion crafting to fortune telling. They're taught to fly brooms and to communicate with magical beasts--Finn considers himself decent enough at Magical Zoology, but not particularly good in flight (or other classes that lean more toward requiring physical prowess). As a first year student at the Academy, Finn is still learning basic spells, and is unable to perform notable feats of magic. All in all, he's known for being at the bottom of his class, barely having qualified in the entrance exams for students continuing from the lower level.

Personal Magic - Changeas: Finn's personal magic. It swaps the positions of designated targets. If used with the right timing, it allows Finn to escape a battle. This magic can potentially heal injuries if trained properly, which he eventually does at a later canon point. By casting Changeas in the right timing, Finn can effectively counter attacks of multiple enemies by swapping their places to make them hit each other.

Personal Magic - Changeas Secondth, Butterfly Sanitatem: The Secondth of Finn's Changeas. It summons a giant butterfly-themed entity with the ability to heal and to share Finn's magic power with its targets. The entity generates several magical butterflies that surround its targets and applies its powers on them. Finn can also continuously heal targets. This is a power that Finn doesn't currently have the ability to harness. Although doing so would likely come with a canon update, he has the potential to unlock it through a mixture of training and the right stressors.

Keen Observation/Intellect - Finn possesses a considerable skill for observation; he is one of the few people to be able to see and analyze faster movements and strategies in battles he's spectating. He's quite clever in his own right as well, being able to quickly come up with the plans to aid him in battles that he has a power disadvantage in--such as taking a hit to steal a mirror that he needs off of his opponent's armor, and fooling another opponent by coming up with a believable fake spell on the spot.
